A Standardarbeitsanweisung, often called an SOP, is a written instruction in a pharmacy's quality management system. Written Standardarbeitsanweisungen have to be in place before a pharmacy carries out its first venöse Blutentnahme.

A Standardarbeitsanweisung is a written instruction that fixes how a defined task is carried out in a pharmacy, and the English abbreviation SOP is used interchangeably. These instructions belong in the quality management system that the Apothekenbetriebsordnung already requires.

For blood collection a usable set covers the whole appointment:

The person is identified and the conditions of § 11c Apothekengesetz are checked.
Aufklärung and consent are obtained and recorded for each person.
Hygiene and the preparation of the room are set out in full.
The draw itself is described step by step for the pharmacist.
Tube order and labelling are specified for every sample taken.
What to do if a person feels faint belongs in the set.
Storage and dispatch are covered, along with how everything is documented.

The deadline attached to this topic is widely reported the wrong way round. 1 September 2026 applies to the Bundesapothekerkammer, which has to provide guidance by that date, whereas individual pharmacies have no dated deadline of their own. What a pharmacy has instead is a condition, because it needs its own written Standardarbeitsanweisungen before the first venöse Blutentnahme, whenever that happens.

Reading the September date as the moment a pharmacy may start delays a service that has been lawful since 2 July 2026. Reading it as a deadline pharmacies must personally meet creates a compliance panic that has no basis in the ApoVWG.

The part that most deserves care is Präanalytik, because that is where samples are actually lost, and the receiving laboratory's handbook is the natural source for those sections of the document.

Alongside the Standardarbeitsanweisungen the file should hold the confirmation of each pharmacist's ärztliche Schulung, since a supervising authority will ask for both together.

BiostoffverordnungThe Biostoffverordnung is the German ordinance governing work with biological agents. It requires a written Gefährdungsbeurteilung before the first blood draw, assigns the activity to a protection level, and obliges the employer to instruct staff regularly.

DiskretionskarteDiskretionskarte is a small card or sign at the counter that a customer can point to in order to ask for a private word without saying anything out loud. It is a courtesy the pharmacy chooses rather than a legal requirement.

HygieneplanA Hygieneplan is the written plan stating which work surface, hands and instruments are cleaned or disinfected at a draw or measuring station, with which product, how often and by whom. The Betriebsanweisung for the activity belongs beside it.

ProbenkennzeichnungProbenkennzeichnung is the labelling of the tube so that the sample can be matched to the right person and the right request. It happens at the person immediately after collection, and an unlabelled tube is discarded rather than guessed at.

SystemkontrolleSystemkontrolle is the routine check that the whole measuring system still works, meaning the device, the strip or cassette, the reagent and the person operating them, rather than any single part of that chain on its own.

ArzneimitteltherapiesicherheitArzneimitteltherapiesicherheit, usually shortened to AMTS, is the aim of making medication as safe as it can be along the whole path from prescribing to taking. The pharmacy holds one specific part of that path.

FilialapothekeFilialapotheke is a branch pharmacy run by the same owner as the main pharmacy, with its own premises and a responsible pharmacist on site. For a service rollout each branch counts as a separate site rather than an extension.
