A venöse Blutentnahme is the drawing of blood from a vein. Since 2 July 2026 the ApoVWG permits it in pharmacies, for diagnostic purposes only, carried out on people aged 18 or over by a licensed pharmacist who has completed an ärztliche Schulung.
A venöse Blutentnahme takes blood from a vein, which allows a much wider range of laboratory analyses than a capillary sample. Under § 11c Apothekengesetz, introduced by the ApoVWG, pharmacies have been permitted to offer it since 2 July 2026, for diagnostic purposes only.
Three conditions have to be met at the same time:
Delegation is narrow, because only the puncture itself may be delegated, and only to a Pharmazeut im Praktikum under supervision who has completed their own ärztliche Schulung. Aufklärung, Anamnese and consent may never be delegated to anyone.
A PTA may not carry out the venöse Blutentnahme, and the puncture may not be delegated to a PTA either, though a PTA may support the preparation and the documentation. Vaccination is regulated the other way round, because delegation to a PTA is expressly allowed there, and the two rules are widely confused.
Four things have to be in place before the first draw:
The Mustercurriculum for the training is due by 2 November 2026, but it is not a precondition for starting, so a pharmacy whose pharmacists are trained does not have to wait for it.
